Building wao erected about 1792 by Don
Bartcleme Bosque, a fabulously wealthy
.spanish Merchant, so arrogant and proud
that-says legend--the "B.B~ 11 cf his
monogram in the iron balcony was set
in backward so that Bosque could gaze
upcn it as it should be, regardless of
the passer-by. The iron work was imported
from Southern Spain and is amcng
the best examples in the quarter.
Bosqueto daughte~ Sanorita Suzette,was
accounted none of the moot beautiful,
fascinating and coquettish women in
N1 Orleans.'' 'Many marvelous entertainments
were given in her honor and the
home was the gathering place for the
elite. Suzette became the third wife
of our first Colonial Governor, w.c.c.
Claiborne. After his death, sho married l
John ~andolph Grymes, the brilliant and ·
unconventional Jurist who defended the 1
famous pirate brother~ Jean and Pierre
Lafitte, in their court battles.
Later and until recently the building
was the home of flAunt Rose" who lodged
sailors of the Seven Seas.
