When funds are available, a transfer of land between Charity hospital and the Louisiana State university board of supervisors will be consummated and a new wing built on the LSU medical school here.
Dr. William W. Frye, dean of the LSU medical school, said Tuesday night at the Roosevelt, the state Legislature has been asked to appropriate money to add to the present structure.
He told members of the New Orleans metropolitan division of the LSU alumni federation of a plan whereby LSU-owned property behind Charity will be exchanged for Charity-owned land in front of the state medical school here, when the funds are appropriated.
He said the new wing will extend to Tulane avenue, and will contain lecture and teaching rooms, office and laboratory space, a library, a cafeteria and an auditorium.
Dr. Frye also told of plans for sending medical school seniors to rural areas for first-hand training with physicians.
He said the plan was designed to encourage general practice in rural fields.
Dr. Frye was introduced by Thomas J. Jenny, president of the local group.
Committees were appointed for a series of summer events that include a dance, a picnic, a night at the "Pops" concerts, and a banquet.
