Mayor deLesseps S. Morrison repeated "an old plantation saying" to spur, on Community Chest workers who made the fifth progress report of the fund-raising campaign at the Roosevelt Friday. "Mean-to don't get no cotton picked," he said. "And 'mean-to' doesn't put the money in the bank for the 30,000 children, the aged, the infirm and the other less fortunate who must be fed and clothed and helped on the road to a normal life. It's not what we mean to do for them. It's what we get done."
Morrison told the Chest workers that they begin with "an enormous advantage," since people are fundamentally decent, kind and generous.
The reports, made by 26 committees Friday, disclosed $829,-725 in nledses to date, rep-
senting 58.7 per cent of the 1950 quota of $1,412,500. At a corresponding time during last year's fund-raising drive, 50 per cent of a slightly lower goal had been raised.
Twelve campaign divisions nave already passed the halfway mark in their respective goals, with the state employes' division reaching the 84 per cent point and the women's special projects division running second with 76 per cent of its quota pledged.
