Children contracting the dreaded kidney disease nephrosis now stand a 50-50 chance of complete recovery through the use of penicillin and a carefully controlled diet, a child specialist said here Monday.
Dr. Harold E. Harrison, chief pediatrician at Baltimore City hospital, told a postgraduate session of physicians at Louisiana State university medical school that no cure is presently known for nephrosis, but careful nursing and prevention of infection are paramount in treating the stubborn malady.
He addressed an afternoon session of a refresher course for 35 picked general practitioners from rural areas. The five-day course, sponsored by LSU medical school and the state board of health, will cover a variety of children's diseases.
