Site for New Orleans' 1000-bed veterans' hospital will be on near-ly two squares of ground in the rear of Charity hospital.
Disclosing that the Veterans Administration had definitely chosen that site in preference to one near the lakefront, Mayor deLesseps S. Morrison said Thursday that two VA representatives will arrive here Sunday to complete negotiations for the Charity hospital location. During the day, Mayor Morrison conferred with A. B. Paterson, president of the New Orleans Public Service, Inc., which owns the land on which the huge proposed hospital will be built.
The mayor said Mr, Paterson had agreed to sale of the land and would take immediate steps to have it appraised not on inflated present-day values but on "those of normal times."
At the same time, the mayor announced that separate negotiations are going on for another square of land hehind Charity hospital, which would be used for an extension of the Louisiana State university medical school. The extension would be devoted mainly to tropical diseases, he said.
Site tentatively agreed for the veterans' hospital would be on ap proximately half a square of land bounded by Perdido, Magnolia and Gravier streets, and a full square bounded by Perdido, South Robertson, Gravier and Magnolia streets. The site is in excess oi 164,000 square feet. The LSU extension would be immediately adjoining the veter ans' hospital—on an 89,450 square foot square bounded by Perdido Freret, Gravier and South Robert son streets.
