Junior and senior pre-medical students from colleges and universities throughout Louisiana will attend the 10th annual open house of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine Friday.
Jointly sponsored by LSU and the Louisiana Heart Association, the meeting is designed to acquaint superior, scientifically-oriented students with the level of scholarship, stamina, and effort which will be demanded of them by professional schools of medicine.
"We view this event as a splendid opportunity to expose the state's top pre-medical students to a first-hand look at the profile of a medical school, including its research and clinical opportunities," Dr. John Arnold Jr., professor and head of the department of medical technology, Loyola University of the South, said.
Speakers and their topics include: Charles W. Baucum, ''The Study of Medicine": Dr. Roland A. Coulson, "Activities or a Medical Center"; Dr. Ronald A. Welsh, "Pathology, The Watchdog of Medicine"; Dr. Leon Churney, "A Closed Circuit Television Demonstration of the Electrical and Mechanical Activities of the Heart"; and Dr. Stanley H. Abadie, "A Broad Look at Tropical Medicine."
All sessions of the open house will be in the School of Medicine auditorium.
