Charity Hospital's new board of administrators has voted to implement six of 11 recommendations of a citizens' committee appointed by Gov. John J. McKeithen to study operations of the hospital.
At a meeting last night, the first since the governor completed appointments to the" board, with Harold F. Haydel of Laplace attending his first meeting, the board voted to:
—Reappoint Dr. Leo J. Kerne as director of the hospital for one-year term, effective July 1, 1964. r —Separate the board office of secretary-treasurer, now held by Weldon C. Talley, retaining Talley as treasurer. —Promote Andrew P. Richard II, administrative assistant, to one of three new posts of associate directors, with Richard also serving as secretary to the board. His salary will be $15,000 a year.
—Promote assistant directors Dr. Louis Burroughs and Dr.M) John Aqilani as associate directors
—Hire Barton, Pilie, Hughes and Jones and its national affiliate, Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Co., to conduct a management control survey.
—Hire David L. Morgan Jr. of New Orleans as hospital purchasing agent, subject to state civil service approval.
THE BOARD ALSO voted to:
1. Hire Edward D. Thomas, a retired captain of the New Orleans Fire Department, as fire prevention supervisor at $380 a month. Thomas, already employed at Charity would fill a position required by the state fire marshal after a recent inspection of Charity.
2. Allocate, with approval of the maintenance superintendent, $4,360 for reworking four fire escape doors and exits.
A committee, headed by Dr. Daniel P. Mclntire, was appointed to study duties of interns at Charity and formulate inducements to attract additional interns.
IN OTHER ACTION, the board officially appointed four committees already at work.
The implementation committee, formed to act on recommendations of the citizens committee, is headed by William J. Guste Jr. The medical committee is headed by Dr...Gilbert C. fomskey;. the finance: committee'is'headed by Dr. Richard W. Hughes and the house committee is headed by Carl T. Smith.
