LSU president John A. Hunter said Thursday although the university will continue to derive the majority of its funds [from the tax dollar many things are now being done which would otherwise be impossible without private support.
Speaking at the annual luncheon of the LSU Foundation at International House, Dr. Hunter said many individuals, corporations and foundations are adding their financial support to the university and it is expected that the trend will continue.
The LSU Foundation was Created to aid the cultural and educational program of the university by soliciting and administering gifts, grants and bequests.
In a brief address, Dr. Hunter reminded foundation members from the New Orleans area that one private gift generates another. All campuses in the university system, he said, including LSUNO and theJjSIJ School of Medicine, benefit trom gifts to the foundation.
James C. Bolton, foundation president, presented membership certificates to Nathaniel Phillips and Gilbert J. Durbin. Dr. James T. Nix, one of the three new members, was unable to attend.
