The Police Department reported as canceled a number of high school dances to which it had assigned members. The Chamber of Commerce of the New Orleans Area closed immediately on receiving the news of the President's death.
Gubernatorial candidates Robert F. Kennon, Gillis W. Long, John McKeithen, Louis J. Michot Jr. and deLesseps S. Morrison announced they would suspend campaign activities. Classes at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine were suspended at 2 pm today until 8 a. m. Monday. Afternoon classes at LSU in New Orleans were canceled but evening classes and Saturday-iay classes were to be held as scheduled.
Tulane University postponed its scheduled dedication Monday of the Hutchinson Memorial addition to its medical school.

Dr. Herbert E. Longenecker, Resident of Tulane, announced ate Friday that suspension of passes at the university will be announced when plans for the funeral for President Kennedy are known.
The Press Club of New Orleans postponed indefinitely its gridiron Show scheduled for today.
The Consular Corps of New Orleans cancelled its annual reception scheduled for Friday night in Gallier Hall. Also postponed was the Thanksgiving Dance of the Filipinio Goodwill Society of America, Inc., which was to have fen held Saturday night at Annunciation gym. The event will be held instead Dec. 14 at St. lary's Italian Hall, 1114 Charters.
A Jefferson Parish dinner scheduled to honor gubernatorial candidate deLesseps S. Mor-rislstfi Friday night has been postponed indefinitely. The dinner, sponsored by the Jefferson Citizens for Morrison and the Better Government Group of Jefferson, was to be held at he Hilton Inn.
The Westwego Civic Association canceled a Friday night meeting where Jefferson Parish president candidates had been scheduled to speak. The Crescent District of the boy Scouts of America has postponed its installation banquet set for Saturday night until further notice, according to George LeBlanc publicity chairman.
Howitzers of the Washington Artillery at Jackson Barracks will be fired Saturday at half-hour intervals between 6 a. m. and 6 p. m. as the Louisiana National Guard pays tribute to the President. On the day of the President's funeral a 21-gun salute will be fired, and a 50-gun salute will be fired at retreat.
A "Meet the Candidates" program of the Jefferson Junior Chamber of Commerce has been postponed a week, and will be held Dec. 1 at 3 p;m. in Jefferson Downs Racetrack.
