Physical fitness involves a lot more than just physical activity, a faculty member of the Louisiana State University's Medical School said here Thursday.
It includes a program of physical, mental, and dental care, Dr. Rafael C. Sanchez told members of the New Orleans Council of Parent-Teacher Associations at their meeting in the main public library.
Many parents feel that by the time their children go to high school, they don't need immunization shots and periodic checkups. But they most certainly do, he said.
Immunization is a big part of keeping fit, he pointed out. There is also need for proper nutrition, rest, good hygiene and sanitation.
This program of physical fitness, including immunization and check-ups from head to toe, should be carried on throughout life, he pointed out.
An increase in the P-TA Council's membership over the
total at this time last year was reported by Mrs. Donald Van Pelt, membership chairman. | The present figure stands at 3,354, and the current membership drive will continue through
March 31, she said.
Others taking part in the program were Mrs. Theodore Means, president, and Mrs. Clement R. Haulman, program chairman.
