"Psychiatry for the Non-Psychiatrist" is. the title of a lecture atfcl discussion period series the ^Department of Neurology and Pyschiatry at Touro Infirmary will sponsor in September and October.
William EL Hermann, director at Touro Infirmary, said the series will consist of sessions held on six consecutive Monday nights, Sept. 16, 23 and 30, and Oct. 1, 14 and 21. The sessions begin at 8 p. in., he said.
Dr. Richard Schmidt, professor and chairman of the Department of Medicine, University of Florida School of Medicine, will speak on "Personality Changes As The Result of Organic Brain X>isease."
Another guest speaker, Dr. William F. Sheeley, Chief, General Practitioner Education Project, American Psychiatric Association, will discuss "Treat-ability of Emotional States by the Practicing Physician." PANEL DISCUSSION
Among other speakers will be Dr. Arthur Burdon. associate professor,of psychiatry, Louisiana State University School of Medicine; Dr. William Wiedorn,
assistant professor or clinical psychiatry, LSU School of Medicine; and Dr. Gene L. Usdin, associate professor of clinical psychiatry, Tulane University School of Medicine.
Dr. Usdin, chief of the department of psychiatry at Touro Infirmary, is coordinating the program. Dr. Burdon and Dr. Wiedorn are junior associates in the department at Touro.
Heading a panel discussion onj Oct. 21 will be Dr. T. A. Wat-1 ters, professor of clinical psychiatry at LSU School of Medicine. He will be moderator at the discussion of cooperation and teamwork between the psychiatrist and non-psychiatrist.
GROUPS APPROVED
The series has been approved by the Orleans Parish Medical Society, New Orleans Society of Neurology and Psychiatry, Louisiana Psychiatric Association, Louisiana State-American Medical, Association, the Steering Committee on Mental Health and Illness. The series has been accepted for special credit by the Louisiana Academy of General Practice.
A questiori-and-answer period will follow a lecture period during each program in the series. Small group discussions will be held with leaders.
New Orleans physicians serving as discussion leaders will include Dr. Lucio Gatto, Dr. Arthur Samuels and far. Vann Spruiell. All are junior associates in the Touro Infirmary Department of Psychiatry.
