Nearly half a million dollars has been donated to cancer research in the New Orleans area since 1948, according to a report by the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans, Inc.
Dr. Oscar Creech, chairman of the association's research advisory committee, said $445,972 has been allocated by associations affiliated with United Funds in South Louisiana.
The money went to Tulane University,Louisiana State Univerity Medical SchooL Louisiana
State University in New Orleans, Loyola University, Dillard University, Xavier University, Charity Hospital, Ochsner Foundation Hospital, Veterans' Administration Hospital and Touro Infirmary.
Contributing groups were the New Orleans Association, the Cancer Society of Greater Baton Rouge, the East Feliciana Cancer Association, the Cancer Society of West Baton Rouge and thet West Feliciana Parish Cancer Committee.
More than a third of the money was allocated for studies in leukemia and allied fields of viruses, chemetherapy and radiation, saidj Dr. Creech.
