The city board of health at its meeting Tuesday at City Hall approved the qualifications of two public health officers nominated by the deans of the Tulane University and Louisiana State University medical schools for appointment as city health director to succeed Dr, Walter P. Gardiner, who died on Dec. 29.
Those nominated for the post were Dr. Andrew Hedmeg, director™ of" local health services for the state health department) and Dr. Joseph R. Martin, medic aFnirector tor the state welfare department and a former director of the East Baton Rouge Parish health unit.
City Chief Administrative Officer Thomas J. Heier Jr. said following the meeting that he hopes to talk to both Dr. Hed-meg and Dr. Martin as well as with two other physicians, whom he declined to name, but who he said are interested in the post.
