For decades of service as a: surgeon and teacher, Dr. James D. Rives was honored by his freinds and colleagues Tuesday night.
Retiring as professor and head of the department of surgery at the Louisiana State university school of medicine but not from his private practice, Dr. Rives was presented an expenses-paid round trip to Hawaii at a testimonial dinner in the Roosevelt hotel.
Since 1919, he has served Charity hospital. There he has been associated with the teaching staff, with administration of the internship and residency programs, and with the general surgery department.
During the same period, he has been associated also with Touro infirmary. He is a past president of the medical executive committee and is a member of the staff.
Both hospitals presented certificates of appreciations for his services.
Dr. A. N. Houston, chairman of Charity's medical committee, and Dr. Allan M. Goldman, chairman of Touro's medical executive committee, made the presentations.
