Dr. Carl M Johnson, director
of the Gorgas Memorial Laboratory in Panama, has been appointed a clinical professor of tropical medicine at the Louisiana State university school of medicine.
The appointment was announced by Dr. William W.
Frye, university vice-president 1 and medical school dean.
According to Dr. J. Clyde
Swartzwelder, head of LSU's
department of tropical medicine and parasitology, Dr. Johnson has contributed significantly to training of medical students and professors sent to Panama for study.
An active participant in LSU's Latin American training program for several years, Dr. Johnson is a graduate of Leland Stanford medical school and holder of a doctor of science degree from John Hopkins university.
He is a special consultant to the Laboratory of Tropical Diseases Middle American research unit and has been a member of the committee on tropical medicine of the National Academy of Science and was health officer for the Republic of Panama.
