As such he is a successor to the first president, Union Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman, who was the first administrator of the old war skule just, prior to the War Between the States.
Dr. Hunter will be officially installed in campus ceremonies scheduled April 7, but in fact he has already assumed the reins of administration held by retiring president Troy H Middleton for 11 years.
The 47-year-old educator has been in administrative posts at LSU for 11 years during the Middleton tenure, first as registrar, later as dean of the junior division and still later as dean of student; services. Thus he knows the problems of student and university from the time a student is first accepted for admission through freshman year adjustments and finally, graduation.
