A medical symposium on pulmonary emphysema is scheduled Saturday in the auditorium of the Veterans Administration hospital under sponsorship of the Louisiana Thoracic Society.
The society is the medical ,arm of the Louisiana Tuberculosis Association. The seminar, Christmas Seal-financed event for physicians and medical students, is expected to have 200 in attendance.
Six lectures are scheduled for the half-day seminar which will begin at 9a. m., three of them by out-of -state medical men. The talks, in order of their presentation, will be:
"Relative D i me nsions of Bronchioles and Parenchymal Spaces in Normal and Emphy-sematus Lungs," by Dr. A. E. Anderson Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.
"Valsalva Maneuver/' by Dr. Hurst B. Hatch Jr., director of the cardio-pulmonary laboratory, Ochsner Foundation hospital.
"Early Detection of Pulmonary Emphysema," by Dr. Ben V. Brans comb, Birmingham, Ala. i
"Inhalation Therapy in Em-
physema," by Dr. John Bobear, assistant professor of medicine, Louisiana State university school of medicine.
"Management of the Patient with Co-existing Heart Disease and Emphysema," by Dr. John Phillips, assisant professor of medicine, T u 1 a n e university school of medicine.
"Surgical Potentialities in the Wheezing or Emphysematous Patient," by Dr. Joseph W. Pea-body Jr., Washington, D. C.
The speakers also will participate in a round table discussion on "General Problems in Emphysema," Dr. Morton M. Zis-kind moderating.
