Private funeral services were conducted Friday morning for Dr. Edwin L. Zander at Jacob Schoen & Son, Inc., auxiliary funeral home.
Dr. Zander, a gynecologist and obstetrician, died at his home, 1148 City Park ave., Thursday afternoon at the age of 65.
After the services, a Requiem Mass was sung at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary church. Interment was in Metairie cemetery.
The deceased was on the staff of both Charity and Mercy hospitals for more than 40 years.
He was a native of New Orleans and was active in numerous medical associations and civic organizations. Dr. Zander was graduated from
the Tulane university school of
medicine in 1920.
The following year, he joined the staff of Charity hospital. He served there as assistant surgeon from 1922 to 1928; visiting surgeon from 1928 to 1940; senior surgeon from 1940 to 1953, and was the hospital's consultant in obstetrics and gynecology from 1945 to 1951.
At Mercy hospital, he had been visiting surgeon since 1922 and was clinical professor of surgery at Mercy's school of nursing from 1930 to 1953, He was president of the hospital's staff from 1930 to 1945.
From 1922 to 1935, he was m-j s true tor in gynecology and obstetrics at Louisiana State university school of medicine and ■was clinical instructor in surgery from 1935 to 1945.
Dr. Zander was a former president of the Orleans Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, the New Orleans Catholic Physicians' Guild and was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and International College of Surgeons.
The New Orleans Kiwanis Club, of which he had been president, honored him recently with a 25-year "Legion of Honor" certificate.
Dr. Zander was a former board member of the Greater New Orleans Homestead Association and was division, chairman for drives of the United Fund and American Red Cross.
He was a former president of j the Knife and Fork Club and the Alumni Association of the Phi Rho Sigma medical fraternity, and belonged to several Carnival organizations.
Surviving are his widow, the former Noelie Zibilich, and one daughter, Mrs. Thomas N. Lennox.
