A national civil defense official has worned nurses in New Orleans that the United States can no longer be confident about its security.
Americans, said Dr. Fred W. Kern, Battle Creek, Mich., must wake up to the responsibilities that communism has thrown their way.

"Take away communism and you take away the reason for | our huge defense expenditures," he said in a address before graduate nurses attending a course on mass disaster.
"But communism is not be-iing 'taken away' and Americans \ can no longer afford to be cocksure of their security -?> militarily, economically, or any, other way."
The nurses' course, sponsored by the Louisiana State university medical schol, the LSU school of nursing and the local branch of civil defense, continued today. Gas Mask Drill
Nurses were taken to Camp Leroy Johnson for an introduction to radiological, biological and chemical warfare. The 394th Transportation Battalion also staged a gas mask drill. | Another speaker yesterday was Miss Catherine Sullivan, chief nurse office, health services, office of Civil and Defense Mobilization, who outlined the duties of nurses in the event of mass disaster.
Thirty-seven speakers will address the group before the course is completed.
