Dr. Marshall L. Michel, clinical associate professor of surgery at Tulane university medical school, will head the New Orleans steering committee which will co-ordinate the matching, fund-raising campaign for a recent $240,000 grant to the medical school.
The grant was made by the Commonwealth Fund of New York, and will be used to increase faculty salaries and add full-time faculty members.
Dr. Michael said that, under terms of the grant, Tulane is required to raise an equal amount of money.
The Tulane portion is expected to be contributed by the Tulane Medical alumni fund, an annual fund program conducted among Tulane's 5300 medical graduates, Tulane alumni, and members of the medical school faculty.
Vice-chairmen of the steering committee are Dr. Mayo L. Emory, Dr. Nick J. Accardo, Dr. Leslie K. Mundt, Dr. Edward L. King, and Dr. K. N. Sam Houston, all practicing New Orleans physicians.
