Sixteen research scientists in the New Orleans area, all working in the field of cancer investigation, were awarded grants by the Greater New Orleans Cancer Association totaling $82,17527, it was announced Tuesday.
Receiving the grants were:
Dr. Philip Pizzolato, assistant chief of laboratory service at Veterans Administration hospital, $5779; Dr. Kenneth H. Shull, assistant professor of biochemistry at Tulane university medical school, $5834; Dr Floyd Reginald Skelton, associate professor of pathology at Louisiana State university medical school, $7981.
Dr. Edward T. Krementz, associate professor of surgery and' cancer teaching co-ordinator at! Tulane university, $5229.13; Dr. William G. Thurman, instructor in pediatrics, Tulane medical school, $8740.50; Dr. W. J. Stuckey Jr., assistant professor of medicine, division of hematology, Tulane medical school, $6131. Dr. Keith Reemtsma, assistant professor of surgery at Tulane medical school, $4359; Dr Nelson D. Holmquist, assistant professor of pathology at LSU medical school, $8049; Dr. Marion A. Guidry assistant professor of biochemistry and pathology at LSU medical school, $7719.
Gerald F. Burns, sophomore premedical student at Loyola university, $1000; Robert Weilbaecher, sophomore at LSU medical school, $230.
Dr. Samuel B. Nadler, professor of clinical medicine at Tulane medical school, $7877.50; Dr. Robert F. Ryan, assistant profes-;sor of surgery at Tulane medical school, $2673.98; Dr. Jose Enrigue Torres, instructor in obstetrics and gynecology at LSU medical school, $2993.46.
Dr. W. M. Reams Jr., assistant professor of zoology at LSU medical school, $1518.50, and Dr. Joseph C. Arcos, associate professor of medicine and biochemistry at Tulane medical school, $6059.70.
Dr. ShulFs research project in volves using chemical compounds to produce cancer of the liver in rats and carrying out studies to discover the changes in cellular biology and chemistry that preceed the actual appearance of the cancer.
