Dr. Rob-jert J. Schramel, assistant professor of surgery at Tulane university, told members of the Rapides Parish Medical Society that, although occurrence of cancer of the stomach is declining throughout the nation, it remains as highi as ever in Rapides and Avoyelles parishes.
Dr. Schramel was one of six Tulane and Louisiana State university researchers who spoke during a scientific program marking the 67th anniversary of the Rapides Parish Medical Society.
Dr. Schramel said the unusual development in the Central Louisiana area is one of many problems testing practical skill of university researchers.
He said it is one of the things researchers will try to solve.
