Damages totaling $12,500 were reported over the week end in two fires, one in a microbiology | preparation room at Louisiana State university medical school, and the other in four dwellings.
The medical school fire started yesterday in a wooden storage cabinet in the third floor room. The blaze was confined to the cabinet, but the ceiling, walls and lighting fixtures were seriously scorched.
Damage was estimated at $7500.
Dr. John Buddingh, head of the microbiology department, said the cabinet had been used to store glassware wrapped in heavy paper, and packages of parafin. He said he had been working in the laboratory until 11 a. m.
The blaze was discovered less than an hour later by M. S. Nesom, 58, of 2525 Verbena, a, watchman who was making his rounds.
