Miss Joan Avrard, medical technologist and teaching supervisor at Ochsner Foundation, Saturday was named presidentelect of the Louisiana State Society of Medical Technologists.
She was elected at the society's convention at the Fon-tainebleau Motor hotel.
Elected secretary was Mrs. Stella Lewis, Baton Rouge, technologist at th e Pathology laboratory: Miss Elizabeth Norsworthy, New Orleans, chief medical technologist at Touro Infirmary, was elected to the board of directors.
Four scientific papers were delivered at sessions Saturday morning. They were:
"Quality Control in the Clinical Laboratory," by Miss Avrard.
1 'Electron Microscopy—a New | Specialty for Medical. Technologists," Mrs, Carol Joan Milam, electron microscopist for the Louisiana State university med-icarschool's department of pathology.
"The Collection, Handling and Preparation of Specimens for Examination for Endamoeba Histolytica," by Dr. Frances Mayfield, pathologist, at Baptist! hospital here.
"Recent Innovation in the Examination of the Urine," by Dr. Meyer Kaplan, director of the kidney station at Charity hospital here,
Sunday, a blood-banking workshop will be conducted at the LSU medical school by Ralph M. Hartwell, chief pathologist at Hotel Dieu hospital.
Speakers at the session will ibe Dr. Monroe Samuels, associate pathologist at Charity hospital, and Dr. Julius Davenport, director of the blood bank at Baptist hospital.
