Seven persons from Louisiana will attend the annual meeting of the National Association for Mental Health which opens Thursday in Philadelphia.
At the convention, the 50th anniversary of the mental health . movement in . the United States will be celebrated.
Delegates from L o u i s i an a scheduled to attend include Dr. Dorothy Seago, president of the Louisiana Association for Mental Health; Coryell McKinney, association board member; Dr. W. F. Pledger, president of the Caddo-Bossier chapter of the Louisiana Association for Mental Health, and Dr. L. P. Champagne, president of the Greater Baton Rouge chapter of the association.
In addition three staff members of the Louisiana association will be in attendance. They include Dr. Loyd W. Rowland, executive director; George L. Saporito, field representative, and Miss Mabel Palmer, director of special services.
At the coneijtion, pioneers in the mental health movement will be honored. Dr. George S. Stevenson, one of the best known mental health leaders here and abroad, will also receive tribute on his retirement, at 66, as national and international consultant for the National Association for Mantal Health.
The pioneers will be honored by Arthur S. Flemming\ secretary of the United States department of health, education and . welfare.
Other speakers will include Dr. Robert H. Felix, director of the National Institute for M e nt a 1 Health and Dr. William Malamud, research director for the National Association for Mental Health and president of the American Psychiatric Association.
Dramatic advances that have been made during a half century of fighting mental illness .will be demonstrated at workshop sessions and general meetings. In attendance will be delegates from 800 local and state mental health associations throughout the nation.
