Dr.. Henry G. Butker of New Orleans, was elected president of the Surgical Association of Louisiana Sunday at the group's 12th annual meeting at the Sheraton Charles, hotel
He succeeds Dr. Gordon W. Peek, who automatically becomes a member of the association's board of directors.
Dr. Walter F. Becker of New Orleans, was re-elected first vice-president. Other newly elected officers are Dr. Willard Ellender, Houma, second vice-president; Dr. Richard L. Buck, New Orleans, secretary, and Dr. Morgan Lyons, New Orleans, treasurer.
Newly elected to the board are Dr. Edgar Breaux and Dr. Donald Williams, both of Lafayette.
Guest speakers at the one-day meeting were Dr. H. William Scott Jr., professor of surgery at Vanderbilt university's school of medicine, Nashville, Tenn., and Dr. Champ Lyons, professor of i surgery at the Medical College of Alabama in Birmingham.
Dr. Scott discussed various-types of operations on duodenal ulcers and the different phases of postoperative handling of such cases,. He gave statistics showing that results of these types of operations are much better than in previous years.
Dr. Lyons' talk concerned the new and more accurate methods of determining the exact locations of various types of congenital heart defects.
