GRANTS TO LSU SCHOOL LISTED
Incease of $154,000 During Year Reported
Outside agencies granted $1,055,000 to the Louisiana State university school of medicine during the fiscal year 1958-59, Dr. William W. Frye, dean, announced.
The figure represented an increase of about $154,000 over any other previous fiscal period and the total represents 79 | actual projects now being con-| ducted.
Twenty-four of the programs were organized during the year while the other 55 are continuations of previous grants'.
Research grants accounted for $537,150 which was used to conduct investigations of various medically related problems in basic science and clinical fields
The training program for nurses, medical students, interns, residents, and research workers received $480,655, which was a substantial increase over the previous high established in 1957-58. Scholarship funds totaled $37,485.
Funds were received from the National Institutes of Health Armed Services, other state in stitutions, commercial and vol untary organizations and indi viduals, foundations and the National Fund for Medical Ed jucation.

The Louisiana State university school of medicine has receive^ a grant of $15,000 a year for ive years to support a graduate raining program in gastroen terogy.
The grant, by the National In stitutes of Health, was an nounced by Dr. William W Frye, dean.
Dr. G... Gordon McHardy clinical professor of medicine will nerve as program directo along with Dr. W. R. Akenhead professor and head of the de partment of medicine.
A traineeship for a graduat internist in the field of gaj troenterology will be establishec with the funds. Dr. Helen Van Fossen, a third year resident in internal medicine at Charity hospital, has been chosen for the post.
