New Orleans phisicians are vis--iting 11,000 employes in 14 busj-ness plants this week to test them for diabetes.
The tests are part of National Diabetes Week. They are being given free by members of the Orleans Pa/rish Medical Society.
The tests will be analyzed at the testing laboratory of the society. If the persons examined prove to have symptoms of dia-bestes they will be encouraged to I go to their1 physicians for treatment*
Purpose of the week is to find unsuspected cases of diabetes and help the people who have them. !A diabetic who keeps his condition under good medical control ! is acceptable as a worker in almost every type of industry, said Dr. Philip B. Johnson, chairman | of the loeaj diabetes detection I drive.
Firms whose employes are being tested are A. and P. Food Stores, Maison Blanche Co.,. Fal-staff Brewing Co., Todd-Johnson Corporation, Jackson Brewing Co., Regal Brewery, Great Southern Box Co., Brown Miller, Bor-den Co., Louisiana Power and Light Co., New Orleans fire department, Walker-Roemer Dairies, Orleans parish school board and Mississippi Shipping Co.
