Appointment of Dave L. Pearce of Baton Rouge as chairman of the 1959 Louisiana Heart Fund was announced Wednesday.
A former state commissioner of agriculture, Pearce will be serving his fourth year as head of the statewide drive next February, according to Dr. Sanford W. Tuthill, Bogalusa, Louisiana Heart Association president, who made the announcement.
\ Pearce will work with the heart councils established in most of the state's parishes and will have three field directors working for him to assist the | parish groups in their year-round activities.
In his acceptance of the appointment, Pearce said a total of 13,400 died of heart and blood vessel diseases in Louisiana in 1957. This is more than the total of all other diseases combined, he said.
