Fatalities caused by insecticides used in fighting the boll weevil have been eliminated through a statewide educational program, Dr. Charjes Petty said here Fri-day
Dr. Petty, assistant professor of pathology at Louisiana State university, is one of the participants at a joint meeting in LSU medical school of the Louisiana Pathology Society and the souti central re-jgion of the College of American Pathologists. The meeting will continue through Sunday.
Many insecticides, such as that used to combat the boll weevil,! he said, are poisonous to man, but! the Louisiana educational program' covering the matter has managed! to wipe out resultant deaths, although in the past two years 13; cases involved required hospital-1 ization.
A diagnostic method for heart attacks in cases of sudden deaths, has been found by Dr. Rudolph J. Muel ing Jr., LSU associate professor of pathology, ilso attending the meeting. He pointed out that the need for the diagnosis if of first importance in legal cases where there is a question of whether death resulted from a heart attack or other causes.
