Dr. Ben Freedman, director of the division of preventive medicine for the state health j department, said today the peak of the summer epidemic of Asian flu "passed 10 days to two weeks ago."
He said there are from 50 to 60 per cent fewer cases than there were two weeks ago.
While Dr. Freedman said he could not estimate the actual number of Asian flu cases in the state, Dr. Andrew Hedmeg, director of local health services, estimated the cases as "less than 10,000 in recent months."
Dr. Hedmeg said the total was obtained from physicians' reports and special surveys. How-1 ever, he added, the illness is
not one regularly reported on health statistics forms.
