As New Orleans "is a seaport we can expect an outbreak of Asian influenza in New Orleans and in Louisiana probably within the near future," Dr. J. D. Martin, chief of the section of epidemiology, Louisiana state department of health, said Wednesday.
In a memorandum to directors of parish health units throughout the state, Dr. Martin instructed the state's; health directors to encourage private physicians to immediately report any case suspected of being influenza.
"It may be that no major outbreak will occur before fall, although the possibility exists of sporadic Occurrence throughout the summer months," Dr. Martin stated.
