Early diagnosis remains the chief problem faced by surgeons in the treatment of cancer, a distinguished Mayo clinic surgeon said here Sunday,
Dr. James T. Priestley, of Rochester, Minn,, said the disease continues to be diagnosed too late. But progress toward earlier discovery is being made through the establishment of cancer d e t e c t i on centers throughout the nation, he added.
Dr. Priestly addressed the Louisiana chapter of the American College of Surgeons at a dinner meeting Sunday night at the Roosevelt hotel. The meeting preceded the opening Monday of a four-day sectional meeting of the American College of Surgeons here.
