A 23-year-old baby sitter still was being held today as homicide detectives and the coroner's office pushed their investigation into the strangulation death of an eight-month-old boy.
The boy. William Watson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Watson, of 33 McAllister, was found dead in his crib Monday, Watson wa.s attendi n g medical classes at Tulane University where he is a student and the
child's mother was at her job. Betty R. Jones, a Negro, of 1324 Annette, the baby sitter, was being held pending completion-of. the probe by authorities.
Dr. * JNiicholas J. Chetta, coroner, said "linear contusions" were found on the child's neCk, arms and back. The marks, he said, could have been caused by! a cord or a cloth pressing against those areis.
The Watsons lived in the student housing center on the Tulane campus.
