Harassments of persons circulating petitions to recall Jefferson parish Sheriff William S. Coci Tuesday by the sheriff and his friends at several polling places in the parish, were reported by Dr. O. R^Depp, chairman of the ~ Citizens Defense Committee.
District attorney Frank Lang-ridge of Jefferson parish said that Dr. Depp had reported only one incident to him and that he understood that "the matter had been straightened out." He said he did not recall where the incident had occurred.
Dr, Depp reported that in each of several incidents Coci or his deputies ordered the solicitors of the signatures further away from the polls although in each instance they were well beyond the required 50 feet from the polling places.
Dr. Depp said that in several instances threats were made to arrest the solicitors of the recall signatures but that "they didn't carry out -those threats. The workers challenged and they stopped."
