The medical staff of East Louisiana State hospital "has very much a load, and has had for many years," Dr. E. M. Robards, superintendent of the 106-year-old, approximately 5000-patient institutoin, has emphasized in a letter to the
writer of the series of articles on "Jackson" recently published in this newspaper.
While there were nine doctors on the staff during the period covered by the articles, Dr. Robards said that "at one time during the war there were just four of us trying to carry on."
j He said that, as of the past Feb-Iruary, five of the nine doctors (in-
cluding himself and the assistant superintendent, Dr. Wm. L. Kirk-
patrick) were members of the American Psychiatric. Association. Dr. Robards is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a fellow and member of the board of regents of the Southern Psychiatric Association and a member of the Orleans Parish Association. ... The institution now has an association with the Louisiana State university school of medicine neuro-psychiatric section, it was stated. A professor from the department currently is holding classes for the staff at "Jackson" Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of each week.
