Louisiana State University's School of Medicine has been awarded two research grants totaling $41,500.
These are among $72,106 in grants which have been approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors.
Largest of the grants is for $37,500 from the Edward G. Schlieder Educational Foundation of New Orleans. It will be used for the study of toxemias of pregnancy.
Dr. Howard J. Tatum, of the LSU Medical School, said,. "In this state during 1951, 30 per cent of the women who died during pregnancy died as a result of toxemia."
The other medical grant of $4000 was awarded by the Eli Lilly Research Laboratories for studies in electron microscopy.
