The American Cancer Society Inc., "not only hasn't convicted tobacco as a possible, cause of; lung cancer, it hasn't even indicted it."
This is what Mrs. Harold V. Mil-ligan, New York city, director pj volunteer recruitment and training for the society, told delegates attending an area meeting of the Louisiana division of the society Tuesday at the Monteleone hotel.
"The American Cancer Society has never gone on record as say ing that smoking causes cancer of the lungs," said Mrs. Mi "We recognize, of course, its high suspicion. However, there are other factors such as exhausts in automobiles and in buses. It might be caused by smogs. Present indications are that cancer of the lungs is more prevalent in large cities. It's apparently caused by something we breathe into our lungs but we aren't ready yet to say what that something is."
