New hope for the prevention of heart disease has arisen because of recent discoveries concerning the cause of heart attacks, it was revealed here today by Dr. Russell S. Fisher, Baltimore, chief medical examiner for the state of Maryland.
Dr. Fisher, who conducted the medical examination in the famous Dorothy May Grammer murder case of Baltimore, is in New
Orleans to confer with Dr. Nicholas Chetta, Orleans parish coroner; Dr. Stanley Durlacher, of the coroner's office, and members of the Louisiana State university medical school.
Dr. Fisher explained that it was believed for many years that blood clots caused heart attacks followed by sudden death.
"However, research made by Dr. Chetta's office and my office in Maryland, working jointly with the LSU medical school, has revealed that a process of hemorrhages of blood vessels has been the primary cause of heart attack.
