The Louisiana State Medical Society will open its 73rd annual meeting here at The Roosevelt tonight.
The official opening meeting will start at 8 p. m. in the Grand Ballroom.
However, registration began this morning, and the society's House of Delegates held a day-long meeting.
A past-presidents' dinner was scheduled at 6 p. m. in the hotel's Pan American Room.
Dr. William E. Barker, Jr., Plaquemine, president, will call the meeting to order tonight.
Dr. Sam Hobson, president of the Orleans Parish Medical Society, and Dr. Andrew V. Fried-richs, president, New Orleans Graduate Medical Assembly, will welcome delegates.
Thomas Brahney, New Orleans' health commissioner, also will give a welcoming speech.
Dr. Philip H. Jones, the society's president-elect, will give the response. He is from New Orleans.
Following the naming of the "Outstanding General Practitioner of 1952," the Rev. Edward F. Murphy, S.S.J., New Orleans, will talk on "The Human and the Divine Physician."
Physicians with 50 years of service also will be honored tonight.
The scientific program will be-gin tomorrow at 9 a. m. It will be split in two sections. Reports on advances in surgery will be made an the Grand Ballroom, on medicine, in the Blue Room. Y., will be one of the participants in the discussions on medicine tomorrow morning., Dr. Georeg F. Lull and Thomas A. Hendricks will speak at tomorrow's luncheon. Dr. Lull of Chicago is secretary-manager of the American Medical Assn. Hendricks, also from Chicago, represents the AMA Council on Medical Service. Dr. Deward O. Ferris, Rochester, Minn., will participate in the discussions on surgery tomorrow morning.
