mortality rate in some heart operations "at least in half," Dr. Robert P. Glover of Philadelphia said here today.
Dr. Glover was one,of the three Philadelphia surgeons^ who performed the first successful operation inside the heart, This was the now-famous "fingertip" operation to open an obstructed mitral valve, done in 1948.
He is here to address the annual meeting of the Louisiana State Medical Society, which opened last night at The Roosevelt
He will discuss the results of some 500 of these operations he and his colleagues have performed since 1948.
Dr. Glover will speak twice on tomorrow's program. SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS
The first- scientific sessions were held this morning, with one program on general medicine and another on surgery.
Dr. F. 0. Ferris of Rochester, Minn., was another out-of-state speaker. He spoke to the surgical group on carcinoma of the stomach. Also on this program were Drs. Ralph H. Riggs, Shrevepori; Leonard H. Stander, Baton Rouge; Isidore' Cohn. Jr., and Alton Ochs-ner or New Orleans.
Dr. Cristopher Parnall, Jr., of Rochester, New York, addressed the general medicine meeting, speaking on the diagnosis of pulmonary lesions. Other speakers on this program were Drs. John E. Bectitold, J. A; Abildskow, A. Seldon Mann,, Albert Segaloff,-Paul J. Murison, Edgar Hull, Thomas E. Weiss, Jack K. Wick-strom, Daniel W. Hayes and A. J.
