Louisiana State university will open bids today to enlarge the football stadium to 65,000 capacity by enclosing the. south end with 20,000 seats.
.The board of supervisors will consider the bids tomorrow. .
Normally a routine affair, the bids proposition has grown into a political controversy, with stadium opponents urging that the board defer action until the Legislature can survey the situation.
Stadium opponents hope that the $2 million bond issue can be removed from the stadium project and placed in construction of a new E library.
LSU president Troy Middleton has rsaid the library is the univer-sily's prime need.
The North Baton Rouge Lions Club-reported a telegraphic poll of the 133 legislators showed that 42 favored deferring action on the bidsv four favored keeping the present fund for the stadium, 14 were, noncommittal and 79 failed to answer. Other Disapproval
The $2 million fund for the stadium was part of a $6 million bond issue approved by the Legislature in 1950. The money also went toward' building an addition to the LSU school of medicine in New Orleans.
