...Asked his reaction to a bill introduced in Congress by US Representative James Morrison, Hammond, to set up a national institute for poliomyelitis, Gov. Kennon said that he thought New Orleans would be a good location for the proposed institute. "New Orleans has two of the finest medical schools in the world, Tulane and: Louisiana State universities' schools, and the fine facilities of Charity hospital, which make it an outstanding medical center," the governor remarked.
He added that he thought Louisiana's medical leaders would welcome the establishment of such an institution in New Orleans.
