A decision to continue its program of service to medically in-digent terminal cancer patients up to a limit of $5000 per annum was made Friday night at a meeting of the executive committee of the Louisiana division of the American Cancer Society.
In the future, terminal cancer patients must be certified as medically indigent by the state department of public welfare before becoming eligible for assistance, said Dr. Walter J. Burdette, chairman of the group and a staff member of the Louisiana State university medical school.
"The $5000 will be used to furnish pain relieving narcotics to patients incurably ill with cancer," he said. "A formula has been worked out to limit the amount the society will contribute per -patient per month as well as per year."
