Dr. William D. Phillips, New Orleans surgeon, died at his home, 479 Audubon, early Wednesday morning, following a long illness. He was 67 years old.
Private funeral services for Mr. Phillips, which are being arranged by the House of Bultman, will be conducted at Trinity Episcopal church chapel Thursday morning followed by private interment in Metairie cemetery.
Prominently connected during his lifetime with various medical, civic and -social'.organizations, Dr. Phillips was a native of St. Francisville. He was the son of the late Marshall Pope Phillips, and the late Mrs. Camille Mum-ford Phillips.
He was a graduate of Louisiana State university and the Tulane university medical school. Fol-| lowing his graduation, he served as house physician at the then existing New Orleans Sanitarium and as visiting surgeon at the old Presbyterian hospital, at Hotel Dieu and at Mercy hospital. At one time, he was an assistant professor of obstetrics at Tulane university and also taught in the Louisiana State university graduate medical school.
Dr. Phillips was a consultant surgeon at Charity hospital and a former member of the board of administrators of Charity hospital.
The Louisiana surgeon was a memjer of the Orleans Parish Medical Society, the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Southern Medical Society, the Ameri-can Medical Association, the Southeastern Surgical Associa- tion, the American College of Sur-geons, the American Board of' Gynecology and Obstetrics and the New Orleans Postgraduate; Medical Association.
Dr. Phillips was vice-president of the Audubon Park commission and president of one of the oldest Carnival organizations in the city. He was also a member of the Boston Club, Rotary Club, and Lakeshore Club.
Survivors include his widow, the former Mary Scott; two daughters, Mrs. George G. West-feldt Jr., of New Orleans; Mrs. Gordon McCabe of Greenville, S. C, and four grandchildren.
In keeping with one of the doctor's last wishes, the family has requested that instead of flowers, remembrances be made to the cancer fund
