Top level organization of the civil defense program in New Orleans is virtually complete and recruitment of volunteers will soon taken place, Mayor deLesseps S. Morrison said Wednesday,
He gave the status of plans and preparations for the civil defense program at a meeting of the Community Volunteer Service and Council of Social Agencies at the Young Women's Christian Association building.
Volunteers will be needed particularly in the home services, first aid, nurses' aids and the welfare services, he said. Morrison advised that at least on member in each family learn first aid.
Paul Ristroph, civil defense director, said that a meeting will be held at 1:30 p. in. Thursday at International House with parents' groups and school officials to determine means of issuing identification tags—so-called "dog-tags" — for school children.
The medical services division, Ristroph said, is studying plans for mass blood typing.
