A nurse's duty is more complex now than it was several years ago and calls for nurses' aids as assistants, Dr. John Adriani, director of the Charity hospital department of anesthesia, told the graduating class of the Charity Hospital School of Nursing last night.
Speaking at graduation ceremonies at the St. Charles hotel, Dr. Adriani pointed out that today, however, the nurse is better trained, has a better background and finds less drudgery than the nurse of 101 years ago.
Diplomas were presented by Dr. Robert Bernhard, director of the hospital. Special awards went to three nurses:
Miss Elizabeth Jane Taylor, Somerset, Ky., honor pin; Miss Kathryn Jean McClendon, Warren, Ark., a $250 scholarship award for the highest scholastic average; Miss Katie Jo Boone, Willacoochee, Ga., honorable mention as the outstanding nurse.
Named to Sigma Alpha Chi, honorary nursing sorority, were Misses Boone, McClendon, Taylor, , Louis Atlas, Barbara Helen Bedford, Carolyn Hope garrison, Elizabeth Laverne Mason, Loanne Marie Peacock and Dorothy Ann Vanderlick.
