| Facilitator Log | 1:10 CP was born in Amite, LA. It was the country and a very friendly place. There were farms -- cotton, sugar cane, sweet potatoes, strawberries. 2:30 CP moved to New Orleans when she was 16. Her mother died young and CP had to take care of her 8 younger siblings. 6:15 CP loved going to the state fair as a child. A bus would pick them up and take them to the fair. There were games and rides and lots of food -- fried chicken, fried fish. 10:00 CP always went to church. CP liked school, especially spelling. CP was a good student but should couldn't go to school everyday after her mother died because she had to take care of her siblings. 16:45 CP has two daughters, Lorraine and Diane. Lorraine was very shy when she was younger. 21:00 Chuch is very important for CP. 'You get good things from church. You've got to have God on your side.' 22:00 CP worked for upper-class white families in New Orleans. She cleaned, washed clothes, mopped, etc. Work taught CP that you don't have to steal or beg. The families treated CP well. 30:00 Annie was CP's favorite sister. She helped CP take care of the younger children. Eddie was CP's favorite brother. He was the yongest. 36:00 CP left New Orleans before Katrina hit. She went to Texas with her brother. They were very nice to her there, took CP in and didn't make her pay. CP's house was damaged badly, but she was able to fix it up and move back in. 42:00 'Do the right thing and God will bless you.' |
