| Facilitator Log | 5:10 JJ's first day fishing with his father was May 16th, 1958. He describes what the area around Buras was like then. 10:00 JJ saw the oil spill in a premonition, the fire in the sea. 12:30 The stress from the oil spill gave him a heart attack. It took away his livelihood. 16:00 The effect of the spill on the community, and specifically on other Houma tribe members - really painful, people with a lot of pride are having to take what they can get. 42:40 Buras is a good town, but for future generations, they may need to try somewhere else. The roots of the heritage of the people here have been pulled out. |
