| Notes | creator: JOSEPH T. MCNARNEY; "text: From the Headquarters of the United States Army in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations comes this letter. The Editors. While the Sixty-fourth General Hospital will not be inactivated immediately, the partial redeployment of its affiliated professional staff makes it fitting at this time to extend appreciation and commendation of this unit for its services in this command. Established first near Bizerte, Tunisia, the hospital cared for sick and wounded from the early phases of the Italian Campaign. In Maddalone, Italy, the Sixtyfourth General Hospital continued its distinguished service and then opened in Leghorn while that city was still under enemy artillery fire. The standards of excellence established by the Sixty-fourth General Hospital in its overseas service reflect great credit on the medical officers and nurses as individuals, and on the School of Medicine of Louisiana State U niversity, their sponsor. (Signed) JOSEPH T. MCNARNEY, General. USA Commanding." |
